 South charlotte neighborhoods include:

• The Arboretum

1. A mixed-use shopping center, apartment community, office complex and medical park which opened in 1989.

2. The shopping center is home to Charlotte's first Wal-Mart store, and the area's name comes from the abundance of trees in the area.

3. The center of the neighborhood is at Route 16 and 51.

4. The area is home to the subdivisions of Providence Plantation, Hembstead, Beverly Crest and Raintree.

• South Park

1. SouthPark Mall, located in Charlotte, opened on February 12, 1970 with three department stores and about one million square feet. As of 2007, it is the largest Shopping Mall in the the Carolinas with over 1.7 million square feet. Located about five miles (8 km) south of Uptown, at the corner of Sharon and Fairview Roads.
2. SouthPark: Its name is derived from a shopping mall of the same name located within the neighborhood.
3. The area is geographically centered at the intersection of Fairview Road and Sharon Road in the south central sector of the city, about six miles south of Uptown.
4. The neighborhood was once a part of a 3,000 acre (12 km²) farm owned by former NC Governor Cameron Morrison. In addition to being home to the mall, SouthPark is also a residential center and one of the largest business districts in Charlotte and the state of North Carolina, with an estimated 40,000 employees.

• Ballantyne

1. A 2000 acre mixed-use development located in the southernmost part of Charlotte
2. Named after land developer Howard C. “Smoky” Bissell's aunt Barbara Ballantyne.
3. Mr. Bissell was the visionary who predicted that Charlotte would expand toward the South Carolina border and planned an office and commercial development relative to his prediction.
4. Ballantyne includes a country club community, with a growing number of neighborhoods with homes that range from starter homes to estates that sell for millions of dollars.
5. Ballantyne is a booming community, which features upscale restaurants, high-end shopping, corporate offices, homes and more.
6. Ballantyne's sought-after South Charlotte location and high-performing schools have led many families to this popular community.
